Audrey Hepburn chose the top of the Burgenstock to marry Mel Ferrer, Sophia Loren made it her home for nearly a decade, and Jimmy Carter made sure to pay a visit. After years of renovation, the resort has re-open its doors combining nostalgic flair with modern architecture. If you want a glimpse of the romantic views that captivated the hearts of so many people, you can access the base of the mountain via the lake. You will be sailing for almost an hour and then transfer to the most modern funicular train in Switzerland for a 20 minute journey. Walk a 1/2 hour easy incline on a wide, shade-covered, trial, and zoom up the 300 ft. Europe’s highest & fastest outdoor elevator- the Hammetschwand Lift. At the mountain top restaurant you will have free time to snap up selfies with backgrounds of glacier cover alps and enjoy a bite to eat. If you prefer not to participate in the walk, other restaurants are plentiful at the Bergenstock resort. Descend the mountain with your guide by public bus and rail to Lucerne’s city center.

What we love about it: If you are afraid of heights, Burgenstock is ideal because transportation can be done via funicular train as opposed to via gondola. You can enjoy a true alpine experience without biting your nails! If that wasn’t enough, the view from the top is stunning.
Insiders tip: If you love a thrill with a view, find a glass observation deck at the rear of the gift shop. It’s the perfect place to snap photos.
